Toggenburg trek: karst and Churfirsten
Tuesday 16 September - Saturday 20 September
A demanding 5-day trek to discover the wonderful Toggenburg region between the mighty Säntis massif and the spectacular Churfirsten peaks, several of which we will climb!
Highlights
Extensive, fascinating karst landscapes with their typical vegetation; panoramic trails opposite the stark rock faces of the Alpstein mountains; unspoiled countryside with traditional Toggenburg houses, alpine pastures, forests, upland moors, and the famous Toggenburger goats ; a ride in a special “crate” cablecar; and — from our airy hard-won summits — breathtaking views to the surrounding peaks and the Walensee far below.
Type of hiking
- 5 days of guided hikes, with discovery of the local flora and fauna, geology, history and culture.
- Hikes at level 3*/4*, for experienced, surefooted hikers not suffering from vertigo and at ease on karst; 750‒1150 m ↑, 600–1100 m↓ and 5–6.5 hours’ walking per day (excluding breaks).
- Technical level: mostly T2 (Swiss Alpine Club grading), with some sections at T3 (including exposed passages, some needing use of hands for balance, some passages secured with cables).
- Need to carry rucksack with clothes, picnics and overnight kit for the 5 days.
Meet in Wildhaus at 9.00 on Tuesday 16 September to start the trek.
