Ritzengrat & Oberrrothorn, 3414 m****
Saturday 16 August
A rewarding but strenuous high-altitude hike offering long views of the Zermatt glacier world and numerous 4000-ers. After hiking up the steep, rocky Ritzengrat ridge, and a short descent, we climb in zigzags through rock and scree landscapes with their unique alpine flora up to the summit of the Oberrothorn at 3414 m.
Total walking time is about 6 hours, with about 1020 m of up and down (please note 4* physical difficulty grading in view of the peak altitude). Some exposed sections, so not recommended for anyone susceptible to vertigo.
Price per person: CHF 65 (excluding transport — mountain lift Zermatt–Blauherd at the start/end of the hike). Meeting point will probably be at Blauherd at 8.30!
